WHO’S WHO

Robert Forester (Huckelbee/Director)Robert, who also directed this production of The Fantasticks, is a veteran of over 70 productions including: Anything Goes, Bell, Book & Candle, You Can’t Take it with You, Don’t-drink the Water, Godspell, Fiddler on the Roof, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Hello Dolly, Into the Woods, Sound of Music, Oklahoma!, as well as many musical reviews. Robert resides in Hebron with his cat Meta and is currently employed with the Wicomico County Board of Education.

Sharon Benchoff – (Lighting) Sharon has been an active member of Community Players for over two decades. She is best known for her work as a lighting designer for over thirty productions including Footloose, The Wizard of Oz and 1776. For the past several years, Sharon took on the roll of director for the productions of Noises Off, An Inspector Calls and Laughing Stock. Most recently, she designed the lighting for Salisbury School’s production of Peter Pan and Bennett High School’s "Rock and Roll Revival". She is honored to serve as Player’s Vice President for the next year.

Matt Bogdan (Mortimer)Matt has been involved with theater since he played the part of a talking book in the fourth grade, which he thinks was a "novel" idea. His dramatic interests led him to community theater, in which he played such roles as Thomas Jefferson in 1776, Bill Sykes in Oliver!, and Jud Fry in Oklahoma!. He directed and survived over 50 high school productions. Matt teaches English at Pocomoke High School and is a real estate agent with Weichert Realtors on the Eastern Shore. Matt would like to thank all the big people, because all the little people usually get the credit.

Yusun Choi (Accompanist)Yusun is a talented young pianist. We welcome her to Community Players.

Rober Joseph Dykes – (The Mute) Joey has performed in many local productions. For Community Players his last two appearances were in Bell, Book and Candle and Anything Goes.

Joanne Little (Accompianist)Joanne, a Life-time member of Community Players, has been involved with 42 players’ musicals by playing the piano. She has also helped with props for over twenty non-musicals. Joanne is a retired Wicomico County teacher where she also helped with choruses, plays and performances. She has played for many soloists, groups and orchestras. Presently, Joanne is the Organist/Director at Manokin Presbyterian Church and Organist at Grace Episcopal Church.

Jack Lynch (Henry)Jack was most recently seen as Vernon Valkner in Players’ production of Laughing Stock. He has directed many plays and musicals for Community Players and has appeared in 1776 and Jekyll & Hyde for Possum Pointe Players. His most favorite roles were Daddy Warbucks in Annie and Stage Manager in Our Town.

WHO’S WHO

John David Maybury (Matt)John attended Salisbury University majoring in music education. Beginning as a trumpeter he switched to voice, which he continues to study. He was Tobias in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd. For the Community Players, he was a sailor in Anything Goes. He currently teaches at Pocomoke Middle School as a band director and music instructor and plans to attend Limerick University in Ireland this coming fall to pursue a masters degree in Music Technology.

Laura Peters (Luisa)Laura Peters is a relatively new member of players; however, she already has a number of acting credits. She appeared as Elsa in The Sound of Music, as Laurey in Oklahoma!, as Widow Corney in Oliver! and Mrs. Darling in Peter Pan all at Salisbury School. At WorWic she played Mitty the Troll in East of the Sun, West of the Moon. For Community Players she was seen as Virtue in Anything Goes She plans to enter West Virginia University as an acting major in the fall.

Susan A. Rogers (Bellomy)She is reviving her role of 19 years ago opposite Bob Forrester in Salisbury University’s production. She is a mother of four, adjunct communications teacher at SU and owns and operates Kaleidoscope Children and Youth Productions, a children’s theatre company. Susan has performed in over thirty productions and directed over forty productions for various organizations. She was last seen in Community Players’ productions as Reno Sweeny in Anything Goes and as Queenie in Bell, Book & Candle. Other Community Player’s appearances include Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun, Lucy in You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, Mrs. Shinn in Music Man, and as Ruth in SU’s production of Pirates of Penzance. Thanks to her saint husband, Scott, and four children, Meredith, Zachary, James and Madison,-- without their support this wouldn’t be possible. It’s been great fun working with such talented people.

Joe Schrider (El Gallo)A theatre major and vocal minor at Salisbury University, Joe played Ren McCormick, the lead, in Footloose with Community Players . He recently was in the original production of Joseph Andrews at Salisbury University as Beau Diddapper and five other parts.

In Memorium

With a sad heart we acknowledge the death of Don Atkinson, a man who made us laugh and enjoy the plays he both acted in and directed. By day, Don was an accountant but, by night, when the stage lights came up, Don was 100% actor.

Don, who first appeared on our stage in The Nerd in 1990 and last appeared as Dr. Chumley in Harvey just a few months ago, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007 after a brief illness.

Don was a loving, giving person. We share in the grief felt by his father and the rest of his family and friends.

We will miss you.

Director’s Message

The Fantasticks is a musical about illusions. The illusions of the young lovers, the illusions of their parents, the illusions of the old actors. But most of all, it is about the theatrical illusion itself; that tacit agreement between the artists and the audience to create an imaginary world together to draw forth moonlight from a cardboard disc and, by an act of mutual magic to transform a few scraps of torn paper into gently falling snow. "On you imaginary forces work," says Shakespeare, and that precept has been our guide.

This production is dedicated to my mother, Eleanor Forester Howell, whose necklace Luisa is wearing
